# Jasvel terms of use

These terms explain what you may reuse, how Jasvel presents regional Jass rules, and why scoreboards do not settle disputes at the table.

## What may you reuse from Jasvel?

You may reuse figures published on Jasvel without asking for separate permission when you include a link to Jasvel with the reused figure. The link should make the source clear to the people who see your work. This permission covers the figure itself, not the surrounding prose, page design, branding or other material that may appear beside it.

The prose on Jasvel is not covered by the same permission. You may read it, refer to it and explain its subject in your own words. You may not copy passages, republish them or adapt them and present the result as your own writing. A person preparing a guide to card values, for example, may use a permitted Jasvel figure with a source link, then write an independent explanation around it.

A suitable attribution can name Jasvel and link to the relevant page. A figure used to explain the order or value of cards should point readers to [card values](https://jasvel.org/rules/card-values/), so they can consult the related reference material. Keep the attribution visible and keep the link usable. Do not place a Jasvel figure beside wording that suggests another organisation created it.

Permission to reuse a figure does not transfer ownership of that figure to you. It does not permit you to remove the Jasvel credit, alter the figure in a way that makes it misleading or use it to support a claim that the source does not support. Cropping, resizing and placing a figure in another work may be acceptable when the meaning and attribution remain clear.

Jasvel does not grant a wider licence by implication. Permission to reuse a figure does not cover the prose on the same page, the Jasvel name as a brand or material supplied by another rights holder. If a proposed use does not clearly fit the permission stated here, ask Jasvel before publishing it through [contact](https://jasvel.org/contact/).

## What do Jasvel’s pages say about Jass rules?

Jasvel’s rule pages describe traditional Jass practice. They do not provide a universal code that every table must follow. Jass has regional and local variations, so players may use a different convention and still follow a recognised form of the game.

The pages explain terminology, card order, scoring and play for the form being described. Swiss German terms remain useful because they identify features of Jass that may not have a single English equivalent. **Obenabe** means a game in which the highest card of the led suit wins. **Undenufe** means a game in which the lowest card of the led suit wins. A reader comparing the two should check which form the table has chosen before applying card order.

Other terms also depend on the convention in use. **Puur** means the trump jack, and **Nell** means the trump nine. **Weis** means a declaration of combinations, while **Stöck** means the trump king and queen held together. **Schieber** means a partnership form of Jass in which players choose or pass the trump decision according to the agreed procedure. Local practice can differ in the treatment, priority or scoring of these features.

For example, a player who declares a combination under one regional convention should not assume that every table awards it in the same way. The players should agree which declarations count, how card order works and which scoring method applies before play. A house rule can sit alongside a traditional form when everyone understands the arrangement.

Jasvel cannot overrule the people playing. If a local rule differs from a page, the players may use the local rule for their game. The [about page](https://jasvel.org/about/) gives further context about Jasvel’s purpose and editorial approach, while [card values](https://jasvel.org/rules/card-values/) provides a reference for understanding rather than turning one regional practice into the only valid practice.

## Can Jasvel settle a disputed score?

No. Jasvel’s scoreboards are supplied as they are. They are practical reference tools, not an official ruling service, and they do not guarantee that a displayed total matches every regional or local scoring convention.

The players at a real table settle a disputed score. They should check the rules agreed for the session, review the cards and declarations, and decide the result under that convention. A scoreboard cannot hear the players’ accounts, inspect the deal or determine what happened during a trick. It cannot resolve a disagreement about an announced **Weis** or about **Stöck**.

A scoreboard can help players record and review a game. The people using it remain responsible for entering the information correctly and checking the resulting total. A group using a regional rule, a house rule or a different scoring method may need to adjust its calculation rather than accept the displayed result without review.

Consider a game in which one player enters a declaration under a rule that the table has not adopted. The scoreboard may record the entry, but that record does not establish that the declaration counts. The players must return to their agreed convention, decide whether the declaration applies and correct the record if necessary.

The same principle applies to Jasvel’s reference pages. An explanation can be accurate for the described form of Jass while another region follows a different practice. Use the page to understand and compare conventions. Use the table’s agreed rules to conduct the game.

Jasvel does not promise that every scoreboard entry will be complete, uninterrupted or suitable for every purpose. The scoreboards are offered in their existing form and do not promise to preserve a particular record or resolve a live disagreement. Report a clear factual issue in a page or tool through [contact](https://jasvel.org/contact/), while recognising that the players remain responsible for their decision.

## How may Jasvel change these terms?

Jasvel may revise these terms when the site’s material, permissions or practices change. The current version is the version published on this page. Read the page again before relying on a permission or condition for a new use.

A revision may clarify an existing point, correct wording or set out a different arrangement for material published by Jasvel. The revised text applies when Jasvel publishes it on the site, unless the revised text states another starting point. A change to these terms governs use of the site and its material; it does not create a new rule of Jass or alter the conventions used at a card table.

If you plan to reuse a figure, keep the required link with the reuse and check the current wording before making a further publication. A later edit to this page does not automatically alter a copy of a figure that was made under an earlier permission. Continued or new use should follow the terms currently published.

A revision also does not change the character of Jasvel’s rule pages. Those pages remain descriptions of traditional practice, including regional and local variations. Nor does a change turn a scoreboard into an official arbiter. Players at a real table still settle a disputed score under the rules they agreed to use.

If a provision is unclear, do not treat silence as a broader permission. Ask Jasvel through [contact](https://jasvel.org/contact/) before using material in a way that is not plainly covered. A request should identify the figure or prose involved, the intended publication and the way the material will appear, so Jasvel can address the actual proposed use.

The [privacy page](https://jasvel.org/privacy/) deals with privacy matters separately. These terms deal with the use of the site, its writing, its figures, its rule descriptions and its reference tools. The publisher may update related information when the relevant practice changes, but a reader should rely on the wording currently published for any new decision.

## Which law applies to Jasvel’s terms?

Swiss law applies to these terms of use. The terms govern access to and use of Jasvel’s reference material, including its prose, figures, rule descriptions and scoreboards.

The choice of Swiss law does not make Jasvel’s description of Jass a compulsory national rulebook. It does not remove the regional character of Jass practice, and it does not decide which convention players should use at a table. The law governing these terms concerns the relationship between Jasvel and the person using its material.

A disagreement about these terms differs from a disagreement between players about a trick, declaration or score. A dispute about reuse, attribution or the interpretation of a permission concerns the site and its material. A dispute at the table concerns the rules that the players agreed for their game. Players should identify the relevant convention and settle the result under that convention.

If a disagreement about these terms cannot be resolved by reading the page and discussing the specific issue, the parties should identify the material involved and the use in question. A clear description can distinguish a copied passage from a reused figure, or a question about attribution from a question about a Jass rule. Contact Jasvel before relying on an uncertain interpretation.

Nothing on Jasvel should be read as legal advice for a particular project. Copyright, attribution and reuse questions can depend on how material is published and where a dispute arises. If a planned use has legal or commercial significance, obtain advice suited to that use rather than treating this statement as a substitute for advice.

These terms state the basis on which Jasvel’s material is offered. They do not promise that every rule page suits every region or that every scoreboard resolves every disagreement. The publisher is Vast Flow, LLP.

The short answer

You may reuse Jasvel figures if you include a link to Jasvel, but that permission does not cover the surrounding prose or page design. Jasvel describes traditional Jass practice, while players remain responsible for applying their agreed rules and settling any disputed score.

## Questions

### May I use a Jasvel figure in my own article?

Yes. You may reuse a Jasvel figure when you include a clear link to Jasvel with it. The permission does not cover the explanatory prose, so write your own accompanying text.

### Can I copy a paragraph from a Jasvel page?

The free permission for figures does not extend to Jasvel’s prose. You may describe the subject in your own words, but ask Jasvel before republishing its wording.

### Are Jasvel’s Jass rules compulsory?

No. Jasvel presents traditional practice and identifies regional or local variations. Players can agree to use another convention for their game.

### Does a Jasvel scoreboard decide a scoring dispute?

No. A scoreboard records information but cannot establish which rule the table adopted or what happened during play. The players decide the result under their agreed convention.

### When does a revised version of the terms apply?

A revised version applies when Jasvel publishes it on this page, unless the revised wording gives another starting point. Check the current wording before making a new use of Jasvel material.

### What does Swiss law govern on Jasvel?

Swiss law governs the use of Jasvel and its published material under these terms. That choice does not impose Jasvel’s described Jass conventions on players.
